Social Sheffield Live Music Editor, Bea Duncan, picks the top three gigs coming to Sheffield, Mon. 31 Oct. – Sun. 6 Nov. 2016.

1. – Hooton Tennis Club // Tues. 1 Nov. // The Leadmill – – (£9)

Four piece Hooton Tennis Club have pretty much perfected the raw, nostalgic sound taking over the indie-rock music scene.‘Katie-Anne Bellis’, the first single from their second album ‘Big Box of Chocolates’ is a mid-tempo, optimistic track which sets the scene for the rest of the record. As the album itself wasn’t released all too long ago, this gig at The Leadmill will be full of fresh-faced material, perfect for a chilled out evening of live music.

For fans of: Kagoule, Baby Strange, Yak
Songs to listen to: Growing Concerns, Kathleen Sat On The Arm Of Her Favorite Arm Chair, Katy-Anne Bellis

2. – Mr Scruff // Fri. 4 Nov. // Queen’s Social Club – – (£14)

How do you describe the sound of Mr Scruff? After all, he is quite unique, shapeshifting musician. Not surprising that his presence has been growing since his debut album released in 1997. You would be hard pressed to find someone who couldn’t recognize at least one his tracks from the first few bars alone. And here he is back in Sheffield at the Queen’s Social Club for a 5 hour set of electro-jazz, funk and everything in between. Guaranteed to get you moving.

For fans of: Bonobo, RJD2, Caribou
Songs to listen to: Get A Move On, Music Takes Me Up, Jazz Potato

3. – EKKAH // Fri. 4 Nov. // The Rocking Chair – – (£5)

Despite supporting Jess Glyne on tour a few years back, EKKAH have still kept a relatively low profile. The Birmingham duo mix together funk, R&B and pop influences to create a unique blend; one that is impossible not to enjoy. Their latest single, ‘Small Talk’, is a compelling pop track with an infectious beat, laced together with stunning harmonic vocals. These girls are set for massive things, so catch them before they inevitably hit the big time in an intimate venue for only a fiver.

For fans of: NAO, Mabel, LION BABE
Songs to listen to: Small Talk, Last Chance to Dance, Space Between Us
Hear a sample: EKKAH ‘Small Talk’
