Top 3 Live Music Gigs in Sheffield (Mon. 10 – Sun. 16 Apr.)

Social Sheffield Live Music Editor, Bea Duncan, picks the top three gigs coming to Sheffield, Mon. 10 – Sun. 16 Apr. 2017.

1. – The Who // Mon. 10 April. // Sheffield Arena – – (£60)

The Who are a band that need no introduction, let alone one in so few words. They’ve been making music since the the height of the Mod Movement in the 60’s, and have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They can easily be considered as one of the most influential bands of the 20th century. Lead songwriter Pete Townsend’s lyrics transcend time, and the tracks will be heralded for decades to come as changing music as we know it. So, while you may still be mourning the fact you can’t go to Woodstock, this might be the closest you’ll ever get. Take the opportunity while you can.

For fans of: Cream, The Kinks, The Animals
Songs to listen to: Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, Baba O’Riley, My Generation
Hear a sample: The Who ‘Baba O’Riley’

2. – Geko // Wed. 12 April // 02 Academy – – (£12)

Manchester born rap artist Geko has been making music since he was 8 years old, and was signed to music collective USG by the time he was 13. If that wasn’t enough, he was the youngest rapper to record a ‘Fire in the Booth Session’ with Radio 1’s Charlie Sloth. His tracks are rich with lyricism, and an expert mix of afro-beat and grime. This set is sure to be a good one!

For fans of: J HUS, Fuse ODG, WSTRN
Songs to listen to: Baba, Y, Drunk on You
Hear a sample: Geko ‘Drunk On You’

3. – Lisbon // Fri. 14 April // The Rocking Chair – – (£5)

Lisbon are an exceedingly underrated alternative pop band hailing from Manchester. While they have yet to release their debut, each one of their tracks are polished and crafted to perfection. With summery progressions and optimistic vocals, it’s difficult to find something not to like. For only five pounds a ticket, this is frankly a steal. These guys are set for huge things. You heard it here first!

For fans of: Coasts, Fickle Friends, Eliza and the Bear
Songs to listen to: Vice, Native, Tyler
Hear a sample: Lisbon ‘Vice’
